Villamartin
course
information
Although
yet to forge a great international
reputation, Villamartín
is well worth going out of
your way for. While not a
terribly long course, the
layout has personality and
has been cleverly adopted
to the terrain thanks to Paul
Putman's keen imagination.
In our opinion, the back-tees
are for the best players only.
A number of short par 4s are
fun to play, and the water
is only really in play on
three holes (especially the
9th). High-handicappers, who
tend not to like water, can
preferably admire the trees,
which although rarely in play,
are very much a part of the
course.
The greens are large, rolling
and pitch well, even from
slightly misfit shots. This
is
a most versatile and generally well-prepared
course, easy to play with the family
or with players of all different
levels.
Inaugurated
in 1972, Villamartin Golf Club is
an 18 hole course of 6132 metres
with fairways of Bermuda grass and
greens of Penncross. It was designed
by Paul Putman.
